These four books make up the heart of the Old Testament’s wisdom literature, addressing suffering, practical living, the meaning of life, and love.

📌 Job

The story of a righteous man who suffers terribly, wrestling with the question of why the innocent suffer. God’s answer points not to explanations but to trust in His wisdom, power, and sovereignty.

📌 Proverbs

A collection of practical wisdom for everyday life — on work, speech, relationships, money, and integrity — rooted in the truth that “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.”

📌 Ecclesiastes

The Preacher examines life “under the sun” and finds that everything apart from God is fleeting and empty (“vanity”). The conclusion: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

📌 Song of Solomon

A poetic celebration of married love, often understood as a picture of the covenant love between God and His people, and between Christ and the church.

🔴 The Scarlet Thread of Redemption — Jesus Revealed in the Wisdom Books

Each of these books points to Jesus, in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.

📌 Job — The Living Redeemer

In the depths of his suffering, Job declares, “I know that my Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25), pointing to Christ our Redeemer.

📌 Proverbs & Ecclesiastes — The Wisdom of God

Christ is the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:24) and the one who gives true meaning to a life that is otherwise “vanity.”

📌 Song of Solomon — The Bridegroom

The love celebrated here foreshadows Christ the Bridegroom and His love for the church, His bride (Ephesians 5:25-32).

📚 Key Scripture

“For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” — Job 19:25
