WHEN YOUR HEART IS TROUBLED

We live in a world where we face bad news, hardships and trials on a regular basis.  And we all go through seasons where it comes in like a flood causing us to feel utterly overwhelmed and overrun.  We can all identify with times like this in our lives.  So what do you do when your heart is troubled?

John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Whenever I used to come up against times of hardship and trial in my life I used to fervently pray and ask God to fill me with His peace.  But reading this verse carefully has shown me something different.  I have learnt that whether I have peace or not in times of trial is not actually up to God.   It’s up to me! In this verse, it says “Do not let your hearts be troubled” This was such an important shift for me to make.  No matter what I am facing only I can decide whether I will hold on to God’s peace or let it go.  His peace is freely available to me at all times but I need to make the choice of holding on to God’s peace.

HOW DO WE HOLD ON TO GOD’S PEACE

John 14:1 says, “Trust in God, and trust also in me”. The only way to hold on to God’s peace is to trust Him.  No matter what is happening in your life right now remember who God is.  Remember that He loves you with the most indescribable love and will never leave you.  Remember also that ultimately He is working all things together for your good! (Romans 8:28).
