As believers, we all go through times when we have a wilderness experience. It’s a time of hardship and trials but more importantly, a time when we are refined like gold in a furnace. When you find yourself in the wilderness it’s easy to feel like you’re forgotten or have missed your calling. So what should you do when you find yourself in the wilderness?
1 Peter 1:6 – 7 says, “In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.”
GOD SHAPES OUR CHARACTER TO MATCH OUR CALLING IN THE WILDERNESS
When you find yourself in the wilderness it’s important to keep two central truths in mind. Firstly, God is with us right in the midst of the wilderness. As we pass through the refiner’s fire He is there with us. He uses every trial and hardship to remove the impurities in our lives and mould us into His image. And secondly, always remember that you are absolutely never forgotten when you’re in the wilderness. This is a time when God often shapes our character to match our calling. Remember these truths and allow them to strengthen your heart and help you persevere.
So if you’re feeling tired and weary today in the wilderness and your heart feels overwhelmed remember these truths. Allow God to do His work knowing that He is ultimately working it all together to fulfil His plans and purposes in your life. And as you surrender to Him in this process you will walk in what He has established for you!
