Let’s face it! We live in a world where we can easily become swamped and overwhelmed with worries, stress and anxiety. There’s always something to worry about; if we’re not careful we can easily become entangled in worrying. But the Bible shows us another way to live. We are to take our worries and cares to the Lord. We are to turn our worries into prayers!
Philippians 4: 6 – 7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This is such a powerful verse and we can pull four powerful truths from it. Firstly, we are told not to be anxious about anything. The only way we can do this is to intentionally make this choice on a daily basis. I often catch myself as I start to worry and then need to make the choice to stop worrying and to give it all to God.
Secondly, we are told what to do in place or being anxious. We are to pray. The minute you feel worries and anxiety rising take those to God straightaway in prayer. Surrender it all to God and give it over to Him.
Thirdly, when we pray and give our worries over to God we need to do so with a thankful heart. This is easy to do when we remember how much God loves us and cares for us and when we remember how He has helped us in the past. He is more than able and willing to help us. We just need to trust Him.
And finally, when we do these things God’s peace will cover our hearts and mind. God’s peace is so incredible, it’s beyond our understanding and if we will trust Him we will walk in this incredible peace.
Let’s choose to intentionally trust God each day instead of worrying and walk in His indescribable peace!
