When we pray the sinner’s prayer it’s the starting point of our redemption and new life in Christ. Yet, far too many people take this step and then just stop there believing they are now saved and they can just live as they please. But this is far from the truth. The life of a true believer is a life that is transformed. In Christ we have become a new creation and now have a brand new life!
Ephesians 4:22-24 says, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
HOW DO I PUT ON THE NEW SELF?
In the verse above we are told to put off our old self and to put on the new self. But how do we do this?
SPEND TIME WITH THE LORD DAILY
We must prioritise spending time with Jesus by reading the Bible and praying. As we saturate our minds and hearts with His presence and Word we begin to think and act as He does.
ALWAYS HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF LORDSHIP AND OBEDIENCE
We must always respond to God with an attitude of lordship and obedience. Let’s always remember that He is not only our Saviour but our Lord. This means that as the Holy Spirit leads us, we must obey. We need to be sensitive to Him as He reveals things in us that need to change. Then we need to be obedient as we rely on His power to change them.
The only way we will truly make an impact in this world and lead others to Christ is if we are like Jesus. This will only happen when we surrender ourselves to God and co-operate with Him as He transforms us.
Let’s go deeper with God than ever before as He helps us to be transformed into His image!
