Life is busy and often it feels like it’s passing in a blur. Yet despite all the busyness, we need to keep a sharp focus as Christians. We must remember that every day counts in how we live for Christ. We’re all running a race as believers and we need to finish strong!
2 Tim 4:7-8 says, “7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
I’m so moved when I read this verse. It’s truly the cry of my heart and drives how I live my life. At the end of my days, when I stand before the Lord I want to hear him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant”.
So then how do we finish strong? At the heart of it, I believe it comes down to the following:
1. BUILD A SOLID RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
Let’s set aside time every day to read the Word and pray. We need to fill our hearts and minds with the Word of God. This is what will keep us strong and help us endure to the end. Let’s stay close to God in prayer and grow deeper in our relationship with Him.
2. FOLLOW JESUS AND OBEY THE WORD
As we grow in our relationship with the Lord we need to put into practice what we are learning in the Word. We all need to make choices and decisions in life. As Christians, we need to make sure that our choices and decisions honour God and make us good ambassadors for Him. It’s so important to reflect Him well in this world that is filled with so much darkness. The way we choose to live our lives matters! Let’s always remember this so that we can be bright lights that bring Jesus into the darkness around us.
3. SHARE THE GOSPEL
Whether through our words or through our lives at all times we need to share the gospel. There’s a lost and dying world all around us that desperately needs Jesus. Let’s take every opportunity to love others and share the gospel with them always.
We only have one life to live. Let’s make it count and finish the race strong so that we can hear God say, “Well done good and faithful servant!”
