GOD IS WITH YOU IN THE BOAT

An image of a very dark stormy sea

As Christians, we know that facing storms and trials is part of our walk.  John 16:33 says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”.  When we go through these hard times it feels like a fierce storm is raging, but always remember that God is with you in the boat.  And He calms the storm!

Mark 4:39 says, “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm”.

This verse in Mark tells the story of the time Jesus was in a boat with his disciples.  They were rowing over the lake and Jesus fell asleep as they were rowing.  A terrifying storm arose while they were rowing and soon the disciples feared for their lives.  They were convinced they would drown and they were terrified.  They cried out to Jesus to save them and He rebuked the storm and immediately it stopped.

When we think about this story we can see that the disciples called out to Jesus for help because they knew His character and they knew that He was able to help them.  Remember, they were with Him day by day and had seen Him perform many miracles.

In the same way, when we go through trials and hardships let’s remember who is with us in the boat.  This is why it’s so important to spend time with Jesus getting to know Him more deeply.  Because when the hard times come knowing God’s character and knowing that He is with us is what will help us persevere.  And being firmly grounded in the Word will help us to stand firm against Satan.

Daniel 11:32b says, “But the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits”.

Let’s invest deeply in our relationship with God so that we know Him, love Him and trust Him more deeply than ever before.  This is what will help us stand firm through the trials and bring victory.
