“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”. This quote from Charles Dickens’ book, “A Tale of Two Cities”, is so apt for the current times we live in! In some ways, our society has advanced so much (eg: technology). Yet, there’s also been a sharp moral decline and turning away from God. That’s why we need to hold fast to God more than ever before!
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”
DO NOT BE CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD
As children of God, we’ve been commanded not to conform ourselves to this world. We are a holy people. We are God’s people who are set apart. Yet, if we’re not careful, we can be drawn into a worldly mindset and worldly living.
We’re living in the end times. As such there’s been a shift towards becoming self-obsessed and self-centred. We can so easily fall into the trap that it’s all about us and our comfort. And in the end, all of this is counter to how we are meant to live as Christians.
We are called to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus. To remember that we are not living for the here and now but for eternity with Jesus. Our lives need to be marked by our love for God and obedience to Him. In this way we will draw others to Him.
CLING TO THE TRUTH OF GOD’S WORD
The way that we avoid conforming to this world is to cling to the truth of God’s word. We need to spend time with God ever day reading the word. In this way we will fill our minds with truth. As a result, our minds and hearts will be transformed, and we will live godly lives.
This world needs us to shine brightly for God so that we can point the way to Jesus. The only hope for this lost and dying world is Jesus Christ, and we need to lead them to Him!
Let’s hold fast to God as never before so we can walk in His ways and lead others to Him!
