Isaiah is often called “the fifth gospel” because of its extraordinary detail about the coming Messiah. Prophesying to Judah, Isaiah combines warnings of judgment with some of the most glorious promises of salvation in all of Scripture.

📌 Judgment and Comfort

The book is often seen in two parts: chapters 1-39 emphasize judgment on Judah and the nations for their sin and pride; chapters 40-66 bring comfort, promising deliverance, restoration, and the coming Servant of the Lord.

📌 The Holiness of God

Isaiah’s vision of the Lord “high and lifted up” (chapter 6) reveals God’s holiness and Isaiah’s own unworthiness, leading to his cleansing and commission.

📌 The Servant Songs

Isaiah’s Servant Songs, especially chapter 53, describe a suffering Servant who bears the sins of the people — one of the clearest Old Testament pictures of the cross.

🔴 The Scarlet Thread of Redemption — Jesus Revealed in Isaiah

No prophet points to Jesus more directly than Isaiah.

📌 The Virgin Birth

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14), fulfilled in the birth of Jesus (Matthew 1:23).

📌 The Child Who Is God

“For to us a child is born… and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

📌 The Suffering Servant

Isaiah 53 foretells the Messiah pierced for our transgressions, bearing our iniquities — fulfilled in the death of Jesus for our sins.

📚 Key Scripture

“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace.” — Isaiah 53:5
