These final three Minor Prophets ministered to the people who had returned from exile, encouraging them to rebuild the temple, renew their worship, and look forward to the coming Messiah. Malachi closes the Old Testament, leaving God’s people waiting for the promised Deliverer.

📌 Haggai

Haggai stirs up the discouraged returnees to finish rebuilding the temple, promising that the glory of this house would be greater than the former, and pointing to God’s presence with them.

📌 Zechariah

Through a series of visions and prophecies, Zechariah encourages the people and gives some of the most detailed messianic prophecies in the Old Testament — the humble King on a donkey, the pierced one, and the coming Branch.

📌 Malachi

Malachi confronts the people’s spiritual complacency and calls them back to faithful worship and giving. He promises a messenger who will prepare the way for the Lord, then the Old Testament falls silent for 400 years until John the Baptist and Jesus.

🔴 The Scarlet Thread of Redemption — Jesus Revealed in Haggai, Zechariah & Malachi

These closing books point directly to the coming of Jesus and the messenger who would prepare His way.

📌 The Humble King

Zechariah 9:9 foretells the King coming “humble and mounted on a donkey” — fulfilled on Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:5).

📌 The Pierced One

Zechariah 12:10 foretells looking “on him whom they have pierced,” fulfilled at the cross (John 19:37).

📌 The Messenger

Malachi 3:1 and 4:5 promise a messenger to prepare the Lord’s way — fulfilled in John the Baptist (Matthew 11:10-14).
