As Christians, we know that life is full of many different seasons. There are moments of immense ups and downs and everything inbetween. Yet, amidst all this, we have an incredible promise from God that He will always be our eternal refuge. What an incredible truth to build our lives upon!
Deuteronomy 33:27 says, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, ‘Destroy them!”
We have this incredible promise that God is our eternal refuge but how do we seek refuge in Him?
1. TURN TO GOD IN PRAYER
It’s so easy to get caught up in trials. As a result, we forget to turn to God immediately. Yet, it’s critical that we run to God straight away and seek His face. This sets our focus. As a result, our hearts and minds will be positioned in faith to receive God’s help.
2. TURN AWAY FROM SELF-SUFFICIENCY
It’s very sobering to realize that we can often try to find solace in other things like eating, sleeping or watching TV. These things in and of themselves are fine. However, when we use them as a substitute for refuge instead of God then we are going in the wrong way.
3. BELIEVE THAT GOD IS YOUR REFUGE
Pouring your heart out to God by prayer and seeking His face is critical. Yet, as you do this you also need to add faith into the mix. You need to believe that God is your refuge. Something that really helps with this is finding Bible verses that speak about God as our refuge. (Psalm 46:1, Psalm 16:1, Psalm 62:7, Psalm 9:9). Put them up where you can see them and memorize them and stand on them.
We have this incredible promise in the Bible that God is our eternal refuge. Let’s commit to making God our refuge always, and turning to Him straight away. He loves us beyond measure and we can confidently run to Him as our refuge always!
