One of our most comforting images of God is that He is our good shepherd. This image was powerfully reinforced to me on a mission trip to Lesotho many years ago. We stayed in Semonkong surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Lesotho. Here we encountered so many shepherds watching over their sheep. I noted that the shepherd was always with the sheep, even if the sheep didn’t realise it. The shepherd was always near watching over them, protecting them and leading them to the best places to graze. It was a powerful illustration of God, our good shepherd and the incredible way in which He cares for us.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
One of the greatest blessings of being a Christian (aside from salvation) is knowing that we always have God with us to guide us and help us. What an incredibly comforting truth this is because it means that we don’t have to try to muddle through life and make it on our own!
So today, I want to encourage each one of us to make sure that we are listening to our Shepherd’s voice every day. He is continually speaking to us and directing us so we need to be sure to listen for His voice.
Let’s ensure that we continually seek God and His guidance every day and as He leads us let’s faithfully obey. We can do this with confidence knowing that our God loves us with the most indescribable love. So wherever He leads us we can confidently follow knowing He is always with us and ultimately will work all things together for the good in our lives!
