There are times in life when bad news rolls at us from every side. It can leave us feeling overwhelmed and in despair. Recently, we had a week like this where the bad news was just flooding it. It’s so easy to allow this to sink us – and it will – unless we remember that this life on earth is temporary and the best is yet to come!
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 says, “17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all”. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
KEEP AN ETERNITY PERSPECTIVE
This verse always used to puzzle me. I wondered how troubles can be seen as “light and momentary”. All too often they feel heavy and entirely devastating. However, as I grew in my relationship with God I began to understand that when we see our current hardships in light of eternity spent with God then they become light and momentary. Keeping this perspective gives us hope and helps us persevere through hardship and trials.
The other thing to remember is that God is there to comfort us when we go through hardship.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
Our God is full of compassion and He comforts us in the most incredible way when we walk through trials. He even carries us when we feel like we can’t walk through them.
So today I want to remind you of two important truths. You have the comfort of knowing God is with you in the present trials you are facing. But also remember to see your trials in light of the glorious hope and future awaiting you. May these truths to comfort you, help you to stand firm and give you hope today!
