Recently I’ve been watching a Netflix series about a business that buys and sells sought-after, rare memorabilia. It’s astounding to see what some of these pieces sell for. But it’s really got me thinking about what truly matters in life and what we should treasure. What is the treasure of your heart?
We live in a world full of distractions. And whether we realise it or not there’s a war going on for our hearts. And even if you’re a child of God you still need to guard your heart constantly. We need to ensure that we don’t get sucked into the trap of valuing things like money, things, a career or popularity. Because the only true treasure we have in this world is Jesus and the eternal life we have in Him. We need to treasure Jesus above all.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.
WHAT SHOULD WE TRULY TREASURE?
We’ve got to remember that as children of God, we are not living for the here and now. We’re living for eternity and our treasure is wrapped up in Jesus. Because Jesus is our treasure we need to love Him wholeheartedly and we need to love others and share the gospel with them. It’s as simple as that!
Loving Jesus means following and obeying Him in the way we live our daily lives. And loving others means sharing the gospel and loving them in practical ways by meeting their needs.
Time is running short and every day we are one day closer to Jesus’ return. Let’s make sure that we value and treasure the only true treasure in this life – Jesus. Nothing else can ever compare. Everything in this world is temporary, only Jesus and the salvation we have in Him is eternal.
