As believers in Jesus, we know that we come to Him by faith to receive salvation and we also live by faith every day. Having faith in God is such an essential part of our relationship with God. As we grow in our faith we learn to trust God. This can feel easy for the small things in our lives. But what happens when we face the impossible? Can we still have faith in God when what we’re trusting for feels impossible?
Mark 4: 35 – 41 says, “That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
WHAT DO YOU FOCUS ON?
When we face seemingly impossible situations in our lives it’s so important to be aware of what we’re focusing on. In the moment, when we’re faced with stress chaos and anxiety, it’s all too easy to focus on the situation we’re facing. We see this clearly from the story above. The disciples were caught in a terrible storm and they were terrified. Even though Jesus was right there in the boat with them, their focus was on the storm and they were filled with fear. But what we truly need to do is to turn to God straight away and focus on Him. We need to remember that He is with us always no matter what we are facing. And His provision and help are already there. We see this in the scripture above. As soon as the disciples turned to Jesus He calmed the storm.
So the next time you face a situation that feels impossible, remember to focus your eyes on Jesus and trust Him for the way that He has already provided for you. Nothing ever catches God by surprise and His help and provision are already there and waiting for us long before we even ask. Trust Him!
