We live in a world where we often face setbacks and disappointments. When these happen it can knock our faith in God IF we don’t guard our faith and keep the right perspective. The most important perspective we must always keep is that all things are possible with God.
Luke 1:37 says, “For with God nothing will be impossible.”
The story that provides the context of this verse is truly encouraging. Zechariah was a priest who served at the Temple and was married to Elizabeth. The Bible tells us that they were old and unable to have children. One day as Zechariah was busy in the Temple an angel appeared to him and told him that Elizabeth would fall pregnant and they would have a son. They were to name him John.
OUR PAST DOES NOT DICTATE OUR FUTURE
Let’s just stop there for a moment. Can you imagine what Zechariah must have felt hearing this? After years and years of trying to have children, no doubt filled with intense yearning and sadness they must have got to the point where they gave up and realized it wasn’t going to happen. When the angel spoke to Zechariah it must truly have felt impossible for this to happen. As a result, he didn’t believe the angel and was unable to speak until John was born.
But God is so much bigger than we can ever imagine and when he decrees something nothing on earth can stop it. This is what Zechariah learnt. Can you imagine the absolute joy they must have felt finally holding their baby in their arms? And most amazingly of all, this baby John was the cousin of Jesus the Messiah. He would be known as John the Baptist.
This story is a powerful reminder that with God all things are possible. Always remember that the same God who parted the Red Sea for the Israelites sent manna and quail for the Israelites, and rose Jesus from the dead is the same God we serve today! There is absolutely nothing impossible for Him.
Today I encourage you to build your faith in God. Fill your heart and mind with the word of God and remember the incredible ways in which God helped His people. He can and will do the same for you if you believe because He is the God of the impossible!
