Each one of us as believers has been called by God to fulfil the purpose He has set for our lives.  We read this in Ephesians 2:10 which says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  This is exciting, yet may also leave us feeling a little daunted and wondering if we have what it takes to do it.  It’s really important though to remember that when God calls us, He equips us!

We see this when we look at the life of Moses in the Bible.  God’s purpose for Moses was to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt and into the promised land.  

Think about that for a moment.  

Firstly, consider the fact that there was a massive group of Israelites leaving Egypt (Exodus 12:37). It must have felt very challenging to lead and care for all those people.  Secondly, remember that they were going through a desert where things like drinking water would have been a issue.  At first glance this assignment seems too big for one person and incredibly daunting.  

However, when you read the Bible you see how thoroughly God prepared Moses for His calling.  Moses spent 40 years living in the desert and during this time he took care of sheep.  He cared for them and herded them from place to place, finding the best spots for them to graze.  Moses didn’t know it but this was his preparation for His calling.  During this time he learnt all the skills he would need to fulfil his calling.  Most importantly, it was a time in which he grew closer to God which helped him to trust God and walk in faith.

Today, I want to encourage each one of us with the story of Moses’ life.  In the same way that God prepared Moses, He prepares us too.  Knowing this means that we can confidently grab hold of that to which God has called us. Step into your calling and walk in what God has purposed for your life.  Put your hand in God’s hand and step into your calling knowing that when God calls us, He equips us!
