PERSEVERE IN WHAT GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO DO

An image of a sign with the word "endure" on it

Each of us as Christians knows that we have been called to share the gospel.  And we can faithfully do this in our everyday life wherever we find ourselves.  But what happens when we don’t see any fruit from our labour? It can leave us feeling pretty downhearted right? But today I want to encourage you to persevere in what God has called you to do!

I recently experienced this myself.  My husband and I have the immense privilege of going to a local school every week to bring the devotion.  It’s truly an amazing door God has opened for us. We are deeply thankful to be able to be part of this ministry to bring God’s word to the kids.

However, we have discovered that when you get to the final week or so before the December school holidays it’s almost impossible to get the kids to listen to what you have to say.  By this point, all they are thinking of is the school holidays! It’s easy to understand that they feel like this after a long year of working hard at school.

So Monday’s devotion did not go very well at all.  In fact, it was awful.  Trying to get the kids to stop talking was tough and though I tried to project my voice and speak louder it definitely wasn’t working.  At this point, a teacher came up to quieten the kids but even after that it just felt like they weren’t listening.  I finished the devotion but left with a heavy heart wondering if anyone had heard anything that I’d said.

WE ARE CALLED TO PERSEVERE AND BE FAITHFUL

As I prayed quietly afterwards in my mind and brought my discouragement to the Lord He faithfully encouraged my heart.  He reminded me that we are called to persevere and be faithful even if we don’t see any harvest from the work we are doing.

2 Chronicles 15:7 says, “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

God is reminding each one of us today that our job is to persevere and remain faithful to the specific assignments He has given each one of us in reaching the lost.  And never forget that God is the one who calls people and saves them.  Ultimately, He brings in the harvest.  And a harvest there will be! We may not be able to see it right now but God is constantly working behind the scenes doing this through the seeds we plant. Our task is to persevere and remain faithful.  We may not see the results of our work here on earth but someday in Heaven, we will see what God has done through us if only we will persevere.

So the next time you are feeling discouraged and wondering if there will be any fruit from your labour for the Lord, remember that He is faithful and is always working behind the scenes in ways we cannot see.  The harvest will come.

Persevere and remain faithful!
