As Christians, we know that reading the Bible and praying is a critical part of our walk with God. But have you ever wondered why studying the Bible is so important?
1. IT HELPS US TO KNOW GOD MORE DEEPLY
2 Tim 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”
We see that to know God more deeply and to grow in our faith we need to read and study the Bible. As we do, God reveals Himself. He reveals His nature and His character to us. In addition, He also teaches us, rebukes us, corrects us and trains us in righteousness. As a result, studying the Bible is pivotal to helping us grow in knowing God more deeply. He transforms us more and more into the image of His son as we grow in Him.
2. IT EQUIPS US TO REACH OTHERS WITH THE GOSPEL
2 Tim 2:15 says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
When we study the Bible we are equipped to be able to share the gospel with others effectively. It’s incredible to have a heart for sharing the gospel with the lost, but we are limited in doing this if we don’t have a strong Biblical foundation.
To sum it all up then, as believers the heart of our faith is to know God and to make Him known to others. We do this both through the words we speak and the lives we live. However, all of the above rests on reading and studying the Bible and praying. This is because these things build our relationship with God and reaching the lost flows from that.
Let’s make it our highest priority to get to know the Lord in deeper ways than ever before this year. Let’s read and study the Bible, pray and invest deeply in our relationship with God and then reach the lost!
