When we become Christians, we start a brand new life in Christ. And it’s important to realise that God has given each one of us a purpose. There are good works that He has prepared for us to do. The key to this, however, is to realise that we must rely on God!
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
It’s so easy to read this verse and to fall into the trap of thinking we need to fulfil our purpose on our own. This is far from the truth. God wants us to lean on Him and receive His help to fulfil our purpose.
The story of Moses illustrates this so well. God spoke to Moses from the burning bush and called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. But Moses was not confident about doing this. He even asked the Lord to send someone else! But God told Moses that He had chosen him for this purpose.
I AM EVERYTHING YOU WILL EVER NEED
Then, a few verses later, we find an incredible truth tucked into scripture. Moses asked God what His name is.
Exodus 3:14 says, “God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.”
You may be wondering why it’s so significant that God said His name is “I am”. But we need to understand that He was essentially saying, “I am everything you will ever need”. I am so overwhelmed with comfort and joy when I read that. No matter what circumstances we face, no matter what needs we have, our God will give us everything we need.
And if you look at the story of Moses, you can see that God helped him lead the Israelites out of Egypt. God directed his every step and even gave him Aaron to speak for him. Yes, God called Moses to a mammoth task, but He was with him and helped him!
I just want to encourage each one of us to start getting excited about the purpose God has set for each of our lives. Begin to pursue your calling with all your heart. By faith, grab hold of what God has called you to and rely on God with all your heart. He will give you everything you need as you need it!
