REACHING THE LOST

An image of an arm reaching out in darkness

When Jesus was on earth He taught people using parables.  One of these parables was about a lost sheep.  The purpose of this parable was to reveal God’s incredible heart for reaching the lost.

Luke 15: 3-7 says, “Then Jesus told them this parable: Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbours together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”

GOD’S INCREDIBLE HEART OF LOVE AND COMPASSION FOR THE LOST

Through this parable, Jesus was revealing God’s incredible heart of love and compassion for the lost.  He was also showing how deeply God values each and every one of us.

We are the children of God and we must always remember that God wants us to have His love and compassion for the lost.  That love and compassion needs to drive us to reach out to others with the gospel and God’s love daily.

So may I encourage each one of us today to invest deeply in our relationship with God.  We need to fill our hearts with the Word of God and begin praying for those around us who are lost.  Let’s ask God to give us His incredible love and compassion for them and look for opportunities every day to be the hands and feet of Jesus wherever we go.   Let’s reach people with the gospel and be salt and light wherever we go.
