As Christians, we have the immense privilege of talking to God anytime, anywhere no matter where we find ourselves.  This is truly an amazing thought! We have a 24/7 lifeline to God.  However, whatever prayer requests we lay before God must be surrendered to His will.  Our heart’s cry must always be, “Thy will be done”.

1 John 5: 14 – 15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

WE NEED TO SURRENDER TO GOD

Prayer is such a powerful part of our relationship with God.  However, if we’re not careful prayer can become a situation where we’re just giving God our wish list and wanting Him to fulfil it.  This is not what prayer should be.  

It’s important to remember that we can pray confidently for things we know are God’s will (like salvation for others, provision etc).  But in other cases, we pray for things that we don’t clearly know from scripture are God’s will (eg: moving to another city).  And in these situations, we must always pray that God’s will be done over our own.

Remember that God in His wisdom always knows what is best for us.  We may think things need to go a certain way. However, God works in ways we often don’t understand to accomplish His plans and purposes in our lives.  Therefore, we can freely make our prayer requests known to God but we must also pray “thy will be done”.

When we surrender to God in prayer like this we grow in our faith and trust in Him. As a result, God is able to move in our lives in ways we can’t even imagine.  He is able to accomplish far more than we could even think of.

Ephesians 3: 20 – 21 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Let’s surrender our requests, desires and dreams to God’s will and watch Him move in our lives in incredible ways!
